Description

The Visual Resources Center houses a large number of images of works of art and architecture spanning the distance from prehistory to contemporary art. The VRC includes the following collections:

  • Slide library, consisting of approximately 135,000 35mm slides, housed in Pickard Hall
  • A growing digital image database available online to faculty and TAs, maintained at the Parker Hall Imaging Lab
  • Anderson Photo Collection, containing over 80,000 photographs from Alinari and prints from the private English collections of the Courtauld Institute
  • Department photo archive, consisting of approximately 18,000 images mounted and archived for classroom use
  • Lantern slide collection, consisting of approximately 10,000 lantern slides, most dating from the late 19th and early 20th centuries
  • Marburger Index, a microfiche collection of more than 520,000 images of German art

Instructions for Use

The facility may be used by:

  • MU Faculty
  • MU Students
  • Museum of Art and Archaeology Staff
  • Museum of Art and Archaeology Docents

Slides may be checked out for a 24 hour period. There is a late fee of $0.25 for each day a slide is not returned. In addition, a charge of $6.00 will be applied for all lost or damaged slides. Duplication of slides is not permitted. Please contact the Curator of Visual Resources for access to any of the VRC collections.
